9 Minute Poem

By : February 7, 2021 Comments Off
When you have a panic attack they say to try a grounding technique Name 5 things you can see Name 4 things you can touch Name 3 things you can hear Name 2 things you can smell Name 1 thing you can taste Breathe in  Hold it Hold it  Hold it Let it out Let me smash this bottle against a wall the wall you pushed me into the night you tore off my underwear as if you were running from the cops I can’t believe I got into a fight with her about you When I invited you in I wasn’t inviting you in. Listen to music, drink a beer,  lose to me in pong… This night was supposed to be like every other night. Was it my boxer

Hateful Heart

By : February 7, 2021 Comments Off
Some people love with hatred in their hearts. When we associate passion with fire, we forget that all flames burn. Pull your fingertips away quickly, but they’re already singed. Yes, she smiled with all her teeth, like a child. But I think she’s lived a thousand lives. And she’s spent every one with her heart turning more twisted. Her eyes glisten like an innocent, but she loves to make you as damned as her. She’ll laugh at you for praying, turn your mother against you, and drop your favorite Christmas ball. She won’t even try to pick up the shattered shards. Because that would risk cutting her fingertips. And she is so fragile to you. So you gather the shards yourself and find the pale blue ornament is nothing but

Ben Shapiro Will be Forgotten.

By : February 3, 2021 Comments Off
Someday, Ben Shapiro will be forgotten about. At least I can dream. I know it’s passe to write about hating a political commentator with as much clout, and I know it’s tasteless to wish even worse fates on him. So, I can hope, without compunction, that he’s forgotten.  I don’t say this for all the obvious reasons, although there are plenty of reasons to hope that television’s youthful, sneering dose of manipulative, right-wing arrogance will be forgotten.  I don’t say this because he’s the most prominent of a group of youthful, under-40s, arch-conservatives who somehow pass off bigotry in defense of some precious cultural value. Because he does do this. And effectively, too. Sadly, Ben Shapiro is also from a long tradition of very well-respected bigots in the literary world.

Civil War: Biphobia Within The LGBTQ+ Community

By : February 3, 2021 Comments Off
When faced with discrimination from the heterosexual community, the LGBTQ+ community stands united with picket signs. During televised rallies or protests, they wave their clenched fists and bare their teeth as signs that they are ready for battle. Whether it is a baker who refused to make a cake for a same-sex couple, the clerk who refused to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple,  or the battle for marriage equality, they fight valiantly to the bitter, broken end. They fight because they are united. They fight because they are family. They fight because they all bear the ugly brunt of discrimination, which puts them all under siege.   However, beneath those wars, in the deep, dark, rotting corners of the LGBTQ+ community, exist various civil wars that position soldier against

Hello LGBTQ+ Community

By : January 24, 2021 Comments Off
The LGBTQ+ community is a safe space for people around the world. It provides a place where everyone can be authentic, without shame or fear. While this community is welcoming, it also has a great deal of judgment and bias.  Here are a few things that I wish the LGBTQ+ community would address in order to support feelings of security and validity:  The Spectrum of Identities The idea of the spectrum of identities is a relatively new concept, and not everyone is familiar with it yet. Not everyone fits in a specific box of expectations for what their gender or sexuality should be. Instead, we are all different and unique. If the LGBTQ+ community addressed these differences, the world could be a more accepting place. People would feel freer to
