Hello! Thank you for checking out my food adventures during my month in Mexico. I’ve provided some quick notes on each place for your next trip. Enjoy.
Must Hits
Primo
Avenida 10, C. 14 Nte esquina, 77710 Playa del Carmen, Q.R., Mexico
Note: Quality food. Great service. Great for people watching.
Los Hijos Del Mar.
77720, 30 Avenida Nte. LB, Gonzalo Guerrero, Playa del Carmen, Q.R., Mexico
Note: Nice local spot. Off the beaten path a bit.
Chez Céline
Av 5ta, Calle 34 Nte Esquina, Solidaridad, 77710 Playa del Carmen, Q.R., Mexico
Note: French bakery that also serves breakfast. Everything is great. Except the tiramisu. Everything else is fire though.
Mu. Burgerhouse Av. 10
10 Avenida Norte, C. 24 Nte, Quintas del Carmen, 77720 Playa del Carmen, Q.R., Mexico
Note: I don’t even have to say anything here. Photo speaks for itself.
El Fogón
30 Avenida Nte. 354, Gonzalo Guerrero, 77720 Playa del Carmen, Q.R., Mexico
Note: There’s a few of these around Playa. All great. Super authentic Mexican food.
Alux Restaurant Bar and Lounge
Av Benito Juárez Mz 217 Lt2, Ejidal, 77710 Playa del Carmen, Q.R., Mexico
Note: Best experiential dinner. It’s literally inside of a cave and you can take a tour after dinner.
La Old School Cruderia & Bar
Av. 22 Entre 1era y, Calle Quinta Avenida, 77710 Playa del Carmen, Q.R., Mexico
Note: The unofficial queer bar of the self organized queer WhatsApp group in Playa
Izsla Playa del Carmen
Av. 10 Norte, Calle 8 Nte y, Centro, 77710 Playa del Carmen, Q.R., Mexico
Note: So I never actually tried this place but I’m obsessed with it. It’s a taco shop/convenience store/sausage kitchen/ hostel/rooftop club
Club de la Cerveza
5 Av. Norte entre calles 34 y 38 Norte Xaman-Ha, 77710 Playa del Carmen, Q.R., Mexico
Note: One of the large collections of beers in Playa. Ask for Andy. She’ll take care of you.
Oh lala – International Cuisine by George
Calle 14 Nte Bis 147-MZA 147, Centro, 77710 Playa del Carmen, Q.R., Mexico
Note: The fanciest dinner that I had in Playa. Every dish was amazing. The atmosphere was great. Tucked away off one of the main streets.
Meh
Los Aguachiles
Calle 34 Nte Centro, Gonzalo Guerrero, 77710 Playa del Carmen, Q.R., Mexico
Note: The seafood is good but not every dish is a smash hit.
Cervecería Chapultepec
10 Avenida Nte. 10, Gonzalo Guerrero, 77720 Playa del Carmen, Q.R., Mexico
Note: This place is great if you want don’t want to break the bank. All drinks and food are affectively $1. You get what you pay for.
Skip
La Perla Pixan
Calle 38 Norte Entre 5ta y la playa, Gonzalo Guerrero, 77720 Playa del Carmen, Q.R., Mexico
This place was listed as a must visit because of the grasshoppers and the ancient drink Pulque. Outside of the grasshopper experience, you can skip this place. It’s in the main thirsty area and you’ll ultimately pay more for less satisfaction.

[…] The food. SO MANY AMAZING PLACES! Well mostly. If you’re in the primary tourist areas, you’re going to overpay and the food won’t be that great. However, the majority of the food is phenomenal. For a full list of the restaurants that I went to and my thoughts on them, check it out here. […]
